 Garden Show Park (1)

At the moment the 6th annual CIGF EXPO is held in Jimei, Xiamen. This Garden Exhibition will last until March 2008 so you have got plenty of time to take a look at it.

One might wonder, what to expect of a so-called "Garden Show Park". Do they just show different kinds of flowers? And grass? Or do they even show you how to do gardening? Considering the different possibilities, we came to the conclusion that this exhibition might not be interesting after all. However somebody eventually needs to write an article about such an event, so we packed our stuff, jumped on the bus and off we went, expecting a hardly exciting day.

As it turned out, this Garden Show Park is anything but boring. They have got large lawns you can sit on, architectural interesting buildings and bridges you can marvel at, and different kinds of gardens that are worth a second look. Before visiting the Garden Show Park, my conception of gardening lied somewhere in between 'watering flower beds' and 'weeding'. I had to knock my idea about gardens and gardening on the head in the Garden Show Park.

Garden Show Park Gardening even seems to have a philosophical character in some ways. You will definitely share that impression if you take a look at the amount of creativity and imagination that can be found in these gardens. Especially in the modern garden area you will have to revise your idea about gardens. Each garden is based on its own philosophy here and is built by a special group of people. When you gaze at those new ways of designing a garden, you will recognise that they are a special kind of art. Instead of monotonic looking flowers you will see interesting forms, extraordinary materials and new ways of beauty.

Beside that modern garden area there are hundreds of other things to look at in the Garden Show Park. The international garden area is interesting as well. Or where else in China have you got the opportunity to be travel to Egypt, Arabia and the Netherlands within footsteps? Apart from that attraction there are several other things to head for. They even have got a hotspring area, so do not forget to take your swimsuit with you.

Garden Show Park
As the Garden Park covers an area of about 6,76 sq kilometres you might get tired sometime. Fortunately there are different electronic mobiles that will drive you around the islands for only 2 RMB. And if you get hungry after all the walking around, the Garden Parks offers various possibilities to get a snack. Besides there is the 'Water restaurant' directly at the lake with the music fountain, where you can take a break.

The Garden Show Park offers so many things to do and see, that you can spend there a day at least. So take your buddies with you and try something different. Forget about your prejudices on Garden Shows and go Jimei for day off.
